As we head into the first weeks of 2016, lots of people are asking themselves how they can get involved in creating some positive change in the world. However small, every effort counts, and there’s ways each and every one of us can get involved. Let’s take a look!
Vote with Your Dollar
In a little town just north of where I live, there’s what can only be described as a ‘coffee shack.’ A very simple drive-through coffee business that’s been there for years. Late last year a brand new strip mall opened up, along with a Starbucks, directly across the street. Our little coffee shack will surely meet its demise this year, as everyone scrambles over to Starbucks to wait in a line three times as long so that their cup can have that cozy little corporate logo on it.
An example of voting with your dollar in a very simple way would be to forfeit the comfy Starbucks drink and support the small, local business.
You can also support entire movements with something you’d ordinarily be doing anyway, like grocery shopping. Buy organic! Let your local stores know that there’s a market for good, local, organic produce. Buy things like non-fluoridated toothpaste, rather than big brand, fluoride-ridden ones.
Do some research and find out when and where your local farmers’ markets are.
Your dollar counts!
Speak Out More
If you’re reading this, chances are you know how uncomfortable it can be to talk to friends or family about things that don’t agree with the status quo. Some people simply aren’t ready to admit that some or all of their entire paradigm is massively off, and to even accept one of the many lies we’ve been fed for decades means you have to at least be open to the rest. Lots of people aren’t ready to do this, and will fight tooth and nail to maintain their illusion.
These people are going the way of the dinosaur.
The world is waking up, and we each need to do our part to help. Find informational videos that aren’t abrasive in any way, and post it on social media. Choose subjects that are easy to digest, by people who speak about them eloquently. There’s endless material out there for everyone to explore. People are hungry for it!
You’ll also make new friends by doing this, and find that old ones are into the same types of things you are. Networking this way is huge!
Start a Blog or Podcast

If you’re really serious, you can even use a company like Hover to buy your blog a unique domain name (i.e. www.YourBlog.com). You don’t have to write either, if that’s not your specialty. Find your creative passion, maybe it’s producing videos, music, or simple infographics to be shared on social media… Find that passion and use it to create the positive change this world needs!
Most every computer nowadays is equipped with everything you’d need to start and run your own podcast, as well! You can start very basic for free, with companies like podOmatic. Pick a topic you like, or that you think would be helpful, and just start recording! The listeners will come if you’re consistent and get it out there, and with the listeners come the guests.
Naturally, you can create a blog for your podcast, or simply link your podcast to an existing blog. As your podcast grows, use a company like blubrry for more comprehensive hosting and statistics.
It’s all very easy, and can grow organically from very small operations!
This is very cliché, but change on a large scale really does start with you.
Start putting better food in your body, if that’s something you’ve been lacking in. Start exercising, or add new activities to your existing routine to keep things fresh. Do you have a creative outlet? If not, find one! Start writing, playing music, drawing or painting, whatever it might be.
Maybe most importantly, find your passion. Sit with yourself awhile and really meditate on what that might be. If you haven’t yet been acting on it, 2016 is your year…
It’s plain to see that 2016 is shaping up to be a big year. Let’s all make sure we’re doing our own part, however small, to make sure the changes are positive and powerful!
